Grief Over Selling Moms Treasures

One of the hardest things I have had to face in the last couple of weeks was selling and giving away my moms things. She had so many things that she loved. They meant so much to her but yet I sold them for next to nothing or just gave them away. That is hard. I mean how do you put a price on a loved ones treasures? There is no price. To that person they were priceless.

My mom and I had plans to get a place and put all of our things in our new place but that didn't happen. She left this world and I have to sell them because I don't have the room for her stuff nor do I need much of it. But how do you do that without feeling sad? I don't even know. All I know is that it is hard and the next step will be her personal belongings. Those will sell for even less and that is heartbreaking.

As I sold my moms furniture for next to nothing I felt guilty. I thought of how she would be saying; "we can get more than that" or "don't sell that, I love it."  She would for sure value those things for more than I sold them for. However to other people they do not have that same monetary value.

A week later I was thinking about the things I sold and gave away so easily and it hit me right in the gut how bad that makes me feel. I feel like I sold a piece of my precious mom. I know I didn't  but that is how I feel. I think of how much she loved her home, how proud she was of her home, how sad she was when she had to move and sell her home, then place all of her treasured things in storage. She spoke often of how much she missed her home and her things. It was sad then and sad now.

Then in a few days those items were gone. People came, they purchased for next to nothing and they left. I don't blame them, you don't want to pay much for used items but it still hurts to think of how much they meant to my mom and how she didn't get to enjoy them for 3 years.

Moving forward I have to remind myself that they are just things, I can't keep paying storage on them and she would be glad someone is enjoying them instead of having them sit in storage. That thought gives me some comfort as I feel sorrow over selling my moms things.

There are a few things, probably more than a few, that I will keep for a long time. They are things I just can't part with.  Hopefully when I am able to sell them it won't be quite the gut punch as it is now.

Moms Unconditional Love

There is one person in your life who is always there for you. who never give up on you when you feel like giving up on yourself.

She is always there to pick up the pieces when things in your life fall apart.

She always has time for you, even if you don't have time for her. If she has plans she will drop everything she is doing just to spend time with you. If you say you need her she is there anytime day or night, all you have to do is reach out to her, call her, ask her to come over, go to see her. She is there.

She will stay up all night just to be with you. You never have to ask to go see her, her door is always open.

Her love for you is never questionable, you always know she loves you even when you break her heart.

She will annoy you by checking to see how you are doing or just wanting to be a part of your life.

She is the person who will love you when you do not feel like you deserve love.

    That person is your mom.

Never take your mothers love for granted. Once she is gone you cannot get it back.

You will miss that annoying  call or text asking how things are going and wanting to be a part of your world.

You will wish you had her love back every second of every day while your world is falling apart and you will have no one to turn to who loves you unconditionally like your mom.

My Best Years Were Just Being Mom

I never once felt like my kids were a burden nor did I ever feel like they kept me from doing things I loved to do. Yea for a while I did different things that were with my kids like story time, the park or playdates with friends but I loved those things because I was doing them with my sweet kids who I loved being around. I spent pretty much all of my time with my kids. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the minimal adult time I had but it was rare and that was fine with me.

I didn’t get to sleep in for years but I got to just hang out with my kids. I didn’t go to movies etc while they were young. But when they were old enough we got to enjoy kids movies together. I didn’t have time to watch what I wanted on TV until they were in bed. But that was ok because I loved many of the kids shows we watched together or reading books which is what we did instead of TV much of the time until they were older.

I had to fix meals for them and had to later take them to functions they were involved in. I truly did not mind most of the time.

Now that my kids are grown I wake up whenever I want on weekends and I can go to a movie whenever I want and watch what I want. I can eat what I want, when I want and I can just pretty much do whatever I want when I want most of the time completely alone, no one to share it with.

So I have lives both worlds. The crazy busy sometimes chaotic world of a mom and the world of someone who is completely alone. I can honestly without a doubt say that I  would take my busy, never alone days with my kids over all else! Those were the best times of my life! They needed me!  I can't imagine never having had those times.

Having the freedom to do what you want whenever you want actually SUCKS!
I am a person who is happiest when I am needed. Being needed gave me purpose and a reason to wake up each day. I can't imagine never having had those wonderful crazy special times with my kids.

Disney's Haunted Mansion 2023 Refreshingly Great

I haven't felt compelled to write a review about a movie in a while but the new Haunted Mansion was so good that I wanted to write about it.

If you are going into the movie expecting it to be like the Eddie Murphy version you will be disappointed. It is important to go into it expecting something new. The Eddie Murphy version was lightly based on the attraction. It was a funny movie and I enjoyed it a lot.

The new movie is completely based on the back story to the attraction, adding some modern day characters of course but then aren't all "guests" who enter the mansion modern day characters?

Those who know the attraction well will catch all of the lines and events that happen while you are on your doom buggy.

This movie has a lot of humor. Its a slapstick form of humor, none of which is trashy which is extremely refreshing. I haven't laughed that hard while watching a movie in a long time!

Haunted Mansion was also touching. It was endearing and had a fun storyline.

This movie was also great because it was pure entertainment. The writers were not trying to promote an agenda of any kind. There were no political or social issues included in this movie. That was so wonderful to me.

I wish Disney would have given this movie more press. So many people I know had not even heard of it. I only heard about it during a preview at another movies and from watching Disney +.

I also think it would have been excellent to release it near Halloween. How fun that would have been!

Haunted Mansion is a funny and entertaining movie. I put it up there as one of my all time favorite movies.  I was able to kick back, escape reality and thoroughly enjoy a movie without the company trying to push an agenda of any kind on me which was externally  refreshing.
