Job Scam that Could Make You a Scammer Too

I have experienced so many different ways people are scamming others online. There are so many red flags, one of the biggest for me is when the person says on a public stream to message them in private. I have also experienced the scam jobs. The job that will turn you into a scammer unknowingly. That is the scam I am going to talk about here. I will write about the other scams in another post.

My income as a teacher is not enough to comfortably live on so I was desperate to find a second job. I looked on Indeed.com and thought I found a great job. The guy said all I had to do was post listings of homes for him. In my desperation to have that second income I took the job.

Here is how the job went, my new boss sent me the information for a home he was selling in another state and told me to post it on Zillow. While I was posting it on Zillow the address he gave me of the home he was selling did not come up. He told me it must be an error so said to use this other address he gave me. This should have been my first red flag but I used the new address he gave me.  It felt wrong but I thought it wouldn't matter because I was just doing a job. I was to leave my email address for the people to connect with when they were interested in the home.

Not long after I posted the home I started getting messages. I would tell the people to contact my boss and give them his information. The next day one of the people messaged me and said that it was a scam  because my "boss" was asking for money before he would let people view the home. That was my red flag and I decided to delete the ad and block my "boss". Before doing this though I replied to everyone who had messaged me letting them know it was a scam. Most of them had figured that out already.

After I thought about it I realized that by posting the ad to a home that wasn't really for sale or that the person I was "working" for did not actually own it I was a part of the scam. My email would be the one connected to the home. There is no way I wanted to scam people. I just needed a job.

A legitimate owner does not need someone in another state to post homes for him or her. If someone says they will hire you to do this it is most likely a scam especially when they want you to use your own email address in the ad.

A job that is too good to be true usually is a scam. Be careful out there folks.
